Internal Medicine
When your doctor personally cares about you like a friend, that's when you know you found the right one. When pursuing good health it’s important to know someone who is thorough and has a broad understanding of what affects good health. And the better that someone knows you, the better your outcome.
About
Internal Medicine is a broad discipline encompassing primary patient care, preventative medicine, and care of seriously ill patients in the hospital setting. Internal Medicine is one of the four major medical specialty fields, along with surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics. The outstanding characteristic of an internist is his thoroughness in patient care. In addition, he is trained in many of the newly developed technical skills and procedures designed to better diagnose and treat disease.
Services
There are several subspecialties of Internal Medicine such as:
- Nephrology (kidney)
- Gastroenterology (intestinal tract, liver and pancreas)
- Cardiology (heart)
- Neurology (nervous system)
- Hematology/Oncology (blood diseases and cancer)
- Pulmonology (lung)
- Rheumatology (arthritis)
General Internists have broad-based training in all of these areas and serve in a dual role as primary care physicians and consultants.
