Rheumatology
Healthy means living your best life – being active and engaged in meeting your life’s goals. Having healthy joints, bones and muscles will get you where you want to go, when you want to go!
About
In Rheumatology, we diagnose and treat autoimmune and inflammatory disorders of the connective tissues – primarily involving the musculoskeletal system (muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons, bones). Rheumatology disorders can also affect the blood vessels, skin, nerves and internal organs.
Autoimmune disorders occur when your body’s immune (defense) system fails to recognize the body’s own cells and attacks normal cells and cause inflammation and damage. Symptoms of autoimmune diseases may include unexplained extreme tiredness, joint pain, muscle pain, skin rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes and malaise. Some people may have more severe symptoms than others. Rheumatic autoimmune conditions include Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematous, Systemic Sclerosis, Sjogren’s Syndrome, Psoriatic Arthritis, Myositis and Vasculitis.
Rheumatologists also treat common inflammatory conditions of the musculoskeletal system such as the crystalline arthropathies (gout and pseudogout) and rare syndromes that cause systemic inflammation.
Rheumatic conditions are chronic conditions and will require long term treatments. We value our relationship with you and your contribution to care decisions as an equal partner. Our goal is for you to live your best life!
