Hematology and Oncology
Healthy is a sense of control. Battling a disease creates scheduling demands and requires lifestyle changes. That’s why we have a local treatment center. No, convenience isn't a cure but it makes it easier to create a plan.
About
Hematology is a subspecialty of Internal Medicine involving the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders. While an internist or family doctor treats many types of abnormalities, consultation with a hematologist is obtained in special or difficult cases. A hematologist evaluates and treats patients with anemia, bleeding disorders, or leukemia.
Medical Oncology is a subspecialty of Internal Medicine involving the diagnosis and treatment of malignancy (cancer). The medical oncologist does not perform surgery but assists with preoperative evaluation, staging (determination of the extent of spread of cancer), and treatment planning for cancer patients. An oncologist’s skills are necessary in cases requiring special knowledge in diagnosis and treatment of cancer. If chemotherapy (drug treatment for cancer) is needed, it is administered by the oncologist.
Services
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is the term for drugs used to treat cancer. Cancer develops when cells of any type become abnormal through gene mutation or injury, and then keep dividing to form more cells without control or order. Chemotherapy destroys cancer cells by stopping them from multiplying by interfering with their division/growth at one or more points in the life of the cell.
Services
At NEA Baptist Clinic patients receive outpatient treatment in the chemotherapy suite by trained oncology nurses and physicians. Each patient receives individualized care by a nurse who administers the chemotherapy drugs and who provides educational as well as emotional support.
